audience some plain but very un palatable facts. He has frankly told us that if we wish to maintain our supreniacy the State must aid scientific study to the same extent as she fosters the development of our Navy. It is not sufficient that we rule the sea, and to quote his own words the school, the university, the laboratory and the work- shop are the battlefields of the new warfare.'

They are generally poor, with an insufficient teaching staff, and this evil has its origin in the fact that we have relied too much on private effort. It is the boundon duty of the State to ́provide adequate universities, and they would be amply repaid by the students

In outlining the case for the plaintiff Mr Hayes said that the claim was one for $230.13 balancs due to plaintiff for meals supplied by request of defendant on board the Kinshen. The defendant was tunning an excursion trip on August 2, and applied to plaintiffs to supply tiflin and dinnor. Lotters and correspondence that had passed between the parties on the subject would be put in as evidence to prove the case.

Mr Dorabjec, partner in the firm, said that defendant came to the King Edward Hotel and ask witness if he was prepared to supply tiffiu and dinner for an Witness agreed to do so at a rate of $2 per head. Defendant then contracted for the supply of 287 meals. On the 31st of August defendant paid $280, Teaving a balance of $230.13 which amount had not yet been paid.

Defendant stated that he lid stipulated that no one was to be given a meal unless they had a ticket, and complained that although large number sat down. for meals, only 101 tickets were issued and paid for, consequently he lost money on the transaction.

His Honour pointed out that the plain- tiffs could not be held responsible for that, and asked defendant to explain why he paid $280, instead of only $202, being 101 meals at $2 per head.

You have made a bad speculation, enid His Bonour, "That is about it, I'm afraid I cannot do anything for you.'

Judgment was then delivered for the plaintiff with costs.

busy Walah commission agent's Litc A had been insured in no less than twenty-five different policies, and the Com- panies began to grow uneasy, for it looked For as if they would have to pay up. Mr Evans found time to tell the story at his home, Tanygraig Morriston, Glamorganshire.

Insed,' said he, to suffer terribly from an enlarged liver and general, debility, and owe my present oxcellent health to Dr Williams' pink pills for palo people. At one time I was so ill that the doctors were ex-. pecting my death daily. The illness was very severe, and of course I had to give up all work. In twelve months my weight was. reduced from fifteen stone to nine stone. When I read in a paper of the remarkable cure effected by Dr Williams' pink pills for pale people in one who had suffered as I was suffering, I decided to give the pills a

trial.
