PRIEST KILLED BY A TIGER.

The Indian Daily Telegraph (Loknow) writes: We have been favoured by a cor respondent with a detailed and painfully Interesting narrative of the circumstances in which Father Cosmas was killed by a tiger in broad daylight on the 18th of last March. The only account hitherto pub- |lished contained two errors: the priest did not fall behind his coolies, but walked on Ahead of them; and the coolies did not see the tiger spring on him and carry him off. The Rev, Father had been attending a spiritual retreat at Bettiah, from which he went on Saturday, the 14th, twenty-six miles north to Rambugar, in an ekka. On Monday morning he said mass in Ramun- gar, and started on foot with three coolies for Sumeswar Hill, twenty iniles or more further north, where the Mission has a house and where he took provisions and money for a priest, Father Jeremias, who was there alone. He soon parted with his colies, who lagged behind, and pursued his walk alone, on an unfrequented road, which for the last five or six miles is u more footpath through hilly jungle, with hich, rank grass- in places. He had with him his watch, fifty," rupecs, and an old muzzleloading gun with

muzzle corked, which he was taking to the chowkidar on Sumeswar Hill. Fa- ther Cosmins must have been attacked, knocked down, and carried into the grass- when he was about two miles from the Mis- sion House, and at ten minutes past 2 o'clock in the afternoon; for his watch wAS found to have stopped at that hour. Tho when examined afterwards, ground, showed where hia feat hud the 3rd and 4th June, 1903, at 10a.m., atped, and a dent in the earth
