Where my fresh-turned furrows run and

I will repair the wrong that was done to the

Here where the senseless bullet fell, and

I will plant a tree, I will dig a well against
the heat and the thirst.
Hero in a large and a suulit land where no
wrong bites to the bone,
I will lay my band in my neighbour's hand,

For the set folly and the red breach and

Giving and taking counsel each over the

number of German vessels increased, it is
true, but not in proportion to the increase of the shipping of the port, while the Nor weigan steamers, which numbered 18 in 1900, and 90 in 1901, rose to 206 last year. Of the steamors cleared inwards last year 44 per cent. were under the German flag (47 per cent. in 1901); 29 per cent. were under the Norwegian flag (15) per cent. in 1901); 14 per cont, were under the British flag (26 por cent. in 1901); over 4 per cent. were under the Siamese flag; a little under 4 per cent, were under the French Hag; and the rest were divided among seven other nationalities. Of the steam tonnage nearly 68 per cent. was German, close on 24 per cent. was Norwegian, a little over 13 per cent. was British, and nearly 2 per cent. was Fronch. As regards the value of the
cargoes, 34 per cent. of the imports was carried in German bottoms, as compared

in Norwegian as against 10 per cent, the
year before; nearly 18 per cent, in British as compared with 27 per cent. in 1901; and over 1 per cent. in Siamese, French steamers brought only about per cont. of the imports. The exports were divided somewhat differently; over 51 per cent. of the total value was despatched in German vessels (51 per cent. in 1901), over 31 per cent. in Norwegian (20 per cent. in 1901), and over 13 per cent, in British (23 per cent in 1901), the Danish being tho next most important class with about 14 per cent of the total. Roughly, then it may be said that German shipping did no more than retain the advantage it gained in the previous two or three years, while the Norwegian flag captured quite a third of the trade that was Britsh in 1901. It will be noted that while the steam tonnage was probably the largest over recorded hy the Bangkok Custom House, the sail ton- nage also mudo a record last year-in smallness.
