PUBLIC AUCTION,
before the Empress Dowager a year ago. At a recent conference on the subject the Grand Councillor, Lu Chuan-lin, re- commended that either the enlightensd Manchu Tunn Fang, at present acting Viceroy of Hunan, be sont to replace Wang Chih-ch'un, or Hsi Liang, the motorious former Manchu Governor of Ronan, who, by the way, was 4 specist

The dismissal of the Western Professors and Tutors of the University was also duo, it is averred, to the initative of the two officials above- amed, although, the blame has been undeservedly placed on HE, Chang Pei- hsi.
