For this the Stewards of the Jockey Clubarenot, apparently, responsible. The Bank

Those Chinese having bills to exchange were passed through the gate at the side to the back of the Bank, there to take their turn. Quite a sen of heads could be seen in the Bank's back premises, but excellent order was kept by the Police who superin- tended the influx and efflux. kept paying out silver all the afternoon quite calmly. There was a little excitement apparent in front of the Bank among Europeans who were stopping in ricshas and carriages and rushing inside only to reappear looking more assured. Knots of Chinese gathered in many parts of the Bank round those who had either good or bad notes which were passed from hand to hand ur.dergoing critical examination. Wo believe that about a couple of lace were paid out to-day by the Bank.
