Londoner's Queer Experiences on
the Great Siberian Railway,
The following article appeared
in the London Ev'ning News:ently
In these go-ahead days one livos în con-, stant expectation of some American capi- talist starting a Piccadilly-to-Poking or Bank-to-Bombay Tube, with a tuppenny fare to any station.
As things stand just at present, however, it is a fair step from Wardour-street, Lon. don, to Port Arthur in Manchuria, and anyone who only saw Mr Pinoli profession- ally, with the weight of a caterer on his brain, would hardly suspect him of such extensive globe-trotting. As a matter of fact, however, this gentleman is an in veterate world-wanderer. Ho has been on
camel back to the Sahara, by Súdan rail- way to Khartum and Omdurman, and by train, conch, boat, and diligence all over. Europe and Amorien.
He took a trip from London across Siberia to Manchuria this summer as a joke 'just to see' he said to an Evening News' representative, if I could get through all right,'

Some good records have been made in the inter-state cricket matches just con- cluded in Australia. Playing for Victoria against South Australia, M. Ellis and T. Hastings became associated as last wicket when the score was about 250. They made longish stay at the crease, and before Ellis was stumped the pair had added 211 for the wicket, Ellis contributing 118 and Hastings 100. Twenty more runs would have made a world's record for the last wicket; as it was, the score is easily record for Australia, the previous best being 136 made by O'Halloran and A. E. Johns for. Victoria against South Australia in January, 1897. In the match between South Austra lia and New South Wales. South Australia scored 412 in the first innings and New South Wales replied with 545. Hongkong Tidos,
The Tide Table given below has been compiled by the Nautical Almanso Office in London from the result of the analysis of cbservations taken by means of an au. tomatic tido-recording machine in the Wa tor Polce Basin at Tsim Sha Tsui during the years 1887-8-9.
The zero of the table is Low Water Or dinary Spring Tides, which has been found to be 2 feet below mean sea level.
To obtain the depth of water on the tide gauge at the Victoria Naval Yard add 5 ft. 7 in., and on the gauge at Lamont Dock, Abordeon, add 12 ft. 9 in. to the height given in the table.
The C. P. R. Co.'s 8.8. Tartar arrived at sun.
