Bovril has layed such a conspicuous part in South Africa that it forms no in- considerable feature of the story. The Lancet has had frequent references to Bovril in the reports of the officers of the Royal Army Medical Corps. Nearly every newspaper correspondent has had to refer to Bovril to make his story complete. Rudyard Kipling and Baden-Powell have written their Bovril stories. Over 500 British hospitals and similar public in- stitutions use and prescribe Bovril, not 1687 beef tea, bat Bovril.

The reason is not far to seek. Bovril is a ncurnisher as well as stimulant. It

WHAT IS A COUGH ?

A spasmodic effort to expel the mucus

from the bronchial tubes. A 'cold canées a more abundant secretion of mucus, and when the lungs and bronchial tubes are inflamed, they are extremely sensitive to the irritation. Unless caro is taken, the cold may result in pacumonia, which is swift and deadly. If the cold is a lingering one, the more leisurely but equally” fatal consumption may set in. Do not neglect a cold or cough. Take Chamberlain's Cough Remedy. It always cures and cures quick- ly. For sale by All Dealers; WATKINS Ltd., General Agents.

On reading the articlo in The Investors Review of October, under the above head- ing, one is struck with the amount of vituperation upon the directors of the Bank of England for offering, in order to assist in the rohabilitation of Silver, to do that which the Bank Charter allows, naino- ly, to keep part of the reserve against its note issue in Silver.

The result of a murder trial is of far less permanent importance than the artistic or inartistic appearance of the projected Vauxhall Bridge which will serve future generations of London- ers, but for the interest taken in the two matters there is no question which most forcibly attracts the attention of the man on the top of the omnibus. More people could give you a biography

From recent advices it is also clear that the British Government is prepared to con- sider any well-advised scheme to attain this end;. but it is not prepared to accept all the proposals recently made by America and France; because, as is alleged by the Indian Government, of the losses and enibarrassments that would result to hor merchants and to her Government by the restoration of a ratio, now standing at about 35 to 1, to 15 to 1. the Editor of the Investors' would over dream of it Silver will always remain the currency of the Fast, whichover meral may be the standard by law, because the people of the East have been accustomed for ages to use and to measure values by that metal, and it still suits them to do so. Since the closing of the mints in India to the free coinage of Silver there has been a continuous fall in the gold price of the metal, and lately a very heavy fall which must be largely attributed to the closing of the Japanese mints to Silver and the adoption of a Gold standard by that country, and not by the overproduction of Silver as asserted by must mono- metallists, but by the constant demo- netisation by one country after another.
