Mr Fyfe says:-It has been announced within the last few weeks that the South- Eastern and Chatham Railway Co. have or dered a new turbine steamer, which is to be built by Messrs, Denny, and to be delivered for next season's traffic, and which for speed, comfort, and convenience in expected to create a revolution in cross-Channel passages. The length of the vessel will be 300 ft., and she will have a beam of 40 ft. She will be entirely different from the pre- Bent type of mail packet. The upper or promenade deck is to have an overhead sholter, so that passengers can obtain pro- tection in rough weather without going below. Extensive cabin accommodation will also be provided. The turbino ma chinery will occupy such a small space that (Praya | much additional room will be obtained for the use of passenger. The builders calculate that the cross Channel passage between Dover and. Calais will be covered

compiled by the Nautical Almanac Office China and Manila S. S. Co., Ld., {|

In London from the result of the analysis of observations taken by means of an au tomatic tide-recording machine in the Wa

The zero of the table.is Low Water Or. dinary Spring Tides, which has been foun. to bi 2 feet below mean soa level.

To obtain the depth of water on the tide gauge at the Victoria Naval Yard add 6 ft. 7 in, and on the gauge at Lamont Dock, Aberdeen, add 12 ft. 9 in. to the beight given in the fable.
