AN ECLIPSE.
Lord Roberts has made a favourable impression on the German Officers.'- Renter.
*
*
But yesterday who ran might read
A starry scroll of-frame"
In that long, alphabetic screed
That followed on his name;
(Though some, of reverence bereft,
A line or two would gain
By giving those upon the left, With etc. for what rernnin.) But now beneath a goodlier blaze,
How wholly one forgets
The G's, and G's, and C's, and K's.
The all-embracing etc! The stars that lit his knightly path
Have lost their bright array- The Bath is but a tepid bath :- Honours are cheap today!
Then P.C., K.G, K.P., G.
C.B., G.C.S.I.,
G.C.L.E., V.C., D.C.,
L., LL.D., good-bye!
For he, for whom ye lately:shone.
Hus made, the wires aver,
A favourable impression on
The ferman Officer!
*
And when, in ages yet unborn,
Some youthful dogmatist
Will view, with patronising scorn,
This awe-inspiring list -
And in the U.S.I. will road
And paper to declare How infinitely bettor he'd
Have done, had he been there :- And in a crisp, incisive style
Instruct the Universe
How all the strategy was vile, And all the tactics worse. :- Despite the gibe, the pointed slur,
His fame secure shall rest, Because the German Officer
Was favourably impressed!
Dum Dum in the Times of India.
A woman that is well. in perfect health. is a rarity. The majority of women have some ailment-some disorder of which to complain. They are weak, all-tired-out, 'broken down, the roses havo vanished from their cheeks, the smile from face, the cheerfulness from the voice. They are peaked, pale and puny. The ruby lips are purplish or blanched, the sparkling eye is dimmed and the bewitching charms of youth are faded. This all due to ill-health. Why women should be so unhealthful, space will not permit of discussion here: But it is a fact. Their systems are debilit ated, all-run-down and need toning up. The stimulating effects of a tonic and tissue builder are required.

Sandakan, Oct. 16, 1902. During the past few weeks, British North Borneo has been visited by several destruc- tive thunderstorms, one on the night of the 25th ult. being particularly violent. commenced about midnight, lasted five hours, and did a considerable amount of damage. It is admitted to have been the worst storm that North Borneo has been visited by during the past twenty-five years, at least. The Club was struck by lightning and set on fire, whilst trees wore struck down and splintered wholesale. People were petrified with terror and several narrow escapes were noted, but no loss of life has been reported. The fire at the Chib was extinguished before any serious amount of mischief was caused by the flames.
