The Tide Table given below has been compiled by the Nautical Almanac Office In London from the result of the analys of observations taken by means of an nu tomatir tle-rounding machine in the Wa ter Pollos Basin at Tom. Sha Teai during. the years 1887-3.0.

The rezo of the table is Low Water Or dinary Spring Tides, which has been found

To obtain the depth of water ou the tide gangs at the Victoria Naval. Yard add 5 ft. 7 to.. and on the gougo' at Lamont Dock. Aberdepu, add 12 ft. 9 in. to the height, given in the table.

Proposed Extension to Japan.

As before stated (says the Kobe Crente of the 13th inst.), the failure of the cant phor monopoly in Formosa in supposed to be caused by the unexpected inorcaso in the production of the staple in the interior of Japan, with the result that the markets in Japan and abroad have been consideraly affected, quotations having fallen to between yon 77 and yon 78 par picul. It was there fore thought necessary by the last Cabinot to extend the monopoly to Japan, sơ sẽ to maintain the price of the staple and protect the monopoly in Forum, A proposal to this effect was agreed to by the last Cabinet: Viscount Katsura, the Premier of tho now Pus Cabine, is reported to take special interest in the finances of the territory, an he was for atime the Governor-General of Porno, B. and it is believed he will take up the Von.
