in the rowing clubs of the Colony, for it is impossible to bolieva that the roving strength of Hong- kong has been represented in the regattas of recent yearR.

This is a matter for those who concorn themselves in the sports of the youth of Hongkong.

Fortunately the weather wea most genial and favourable for a day's outing upon the face of the waters. In the early afternoon, a nice breeze was blowing from the cast ward, which freshened as it reared round ta the south-east. It was nice breeze for the sailing races, and it was a pretty sight to see the well-filled sails of the yachts at the starting point. As it hap poned, this fresh breeze proved a bit troublesome to the participators in the rowing events, and was especially trying to the Chairman's Cup crews. The usual course was marked out from Yaumati te Trimshatsal, and the grod ship Kensington (Capt. „Borland)- was kindly placed at the disposal of the Committes as a flagship The Kensington was gaily decorated with bunting. Shortly after twelve o'clock, H.E. Sir Henry A. Bhairo and the Govern

mont House party arrived on the flagship. An excellent tin was served to the officials and their guests by MERR Madar and Farmer. In the course of the afternoon, a goodly number of ladies and gentlonis assembled on board the flagship, and there were several launch loads of spectators following the course of the races. The Committee, officials, and Mr W. S. Bailey, Secretary, and Mr Tisborel, the unergetic Steward, are deserving of the highest paise for the excellence of the ar- rangements for the meeting. There was considerable delay in starting some of the events, however, owing to savoral junks having anchored in the fairway, notwith- standing the fact of a special Government Notification had been issued as to the clearance of the course,

During the afternoon, music was discours- nd on board the flagship by the band of the Hongkong Regiment.
