DEATH OF CAPT. GRIDLEY, U.S.N.
Mr Rounsarelle Wildnis, U.S. Consul General, writes to us as follows:-
Ism in receipt of a telegram from the Captain of O. & O. steamer Coptic, st Kobe, dated June 6, announcing the death of Captain-Uhus V. Gridley, U.S.N., Tate Comander of the U.S. Flagship at the Battle of Manila Bay entered the Navy from Michigan on gradu. Capt. Gridley 28, 1860, and served with distinction ation from the Military Academy in Sept. through the Civil War. Throughout the battle on the 1st May be stood vary sloss to Admiral Doway, who trusted him and depended upon him for advice.
