It is always refreshing to hear of people who act up to their convictions, whose lives furnish a spectacle of consistency between crood and practico. Why should thase

students strive to pass exams," the | practical benefit of which could not be reaped, socing that the end of the Era is just upon us! The misfortune is that their ereed in this particular is survival or recrudescones of a folly oft repeated in history. It is disappointing to find one- sistency so well instanced in matters which are little worse than inano if ekorishod us private hobbies, but which aro spt to become pernicious when seriously promulgated.

Mackay gives many instances of wide. spread torror caused by the extravagant predictions of false prophets. In 1736, Londen was thrown into consternation by a prophecy that the world would be destroyed on October 13th of that, your. The people of Leeds and its neighbourhood were affected by a panic terror in 1806 through the trickery which caused a hen to lay eggs on which were inscribed the words *Christ in cbreing.'
