THE TITLE OF ADMIRAL.

It should here be explained that the title of Admiral' was not espl in England is the earlier days, says the London Nuutier Maguins. In fact, the better opinion is that it was not so used hefore the begining of the fourteenth century. He was called Capitaneus Marie (Captain of the Son) Keeper of the seacoasty, Captain of the King's uriners. The title Admiral' or * Animal," probably derived from the Ambie amir or emir (prefect), was used in foreign countries auch earlier than in England, and cure to us from France. Prynno (Animadversions, p. 106) states thus early as Admiralty Court in England as early as the time

The Tide Table given below has been compiled by the Nautical Alanso Office in London from the results of the analysis of observacions taken by means of na automa tio tide recording machine in the Water Police Basin at Tsim Sha Tsui during the years 1887-8-9.

The zero of the table is Low Water Or dinary Spring Tides, which has been found to be 3 feet below mean sea level,

To obtain the depth of water on the tide gouge at the Victoria Naval Yard add 6 ft.
