2.46 p..Auction of Household Furni-Tunez Russian officers from the Pladi- ture, &, at the Residence of Mrmir Monomach were found guilty-to-day Bony Humphreys, Eaatley,' Upper of a coutravention of our local Ordipance, Richmond Road,
which forbids the sketching of forta, etc. The case was heard by Mr Sor combe Smith, who imposed the penalty of 850 each. It is true that they were convicted merely of trespass on field- works, but it should be burne in mind that a sketch of the Lyeeman forts was found upon one of the defendants. The three defendants are known to bare gone to Stanley on ponies last Saturday, and to have mkon observations as they went. On Sunday forenoon they were arrested and taken to the Yaumati Po lice Station, where they asked to be allowed out on bail. This request", was refused by the Police Authorities, on the qufficient ground (as we think) that | two foreign officers, who had previously been released on bail, forgot to appear to answer a similar charge. At 9 p.m., however, an order of H. E. the Gover- nor was received by the Police, to the effect that, as the Captain of the Russian "mac-of-wor and the Russian Consul had undertaken to produce theofficers to meet the charge at the Magistracy, they should be released. As we have stated, the defendants appeared this morning, and the penalty imposed was fifty dollars
