South Corea dit not see much of the belligerent forces, but during the whole period bostilities were in progress the Tong Heks bad to be kept in check by Japanese troops. In addition to the Toog Haks, the people of North Cores, to whom the war brought ruia and devastation, are again in rebelline, while all, the old intrigue is renewed at the capital between the irreconcilable factions of the Corean Court. Shou'd the insur- rection in the north assume serious pro- portions, the Corean Government will require to call in foreign oid, and it is highly probable that the international complications which were avoided at the termination of the war may yot arise. The Japanese soldiers at the presens time are holding the northern insurgents in check, but the events in Seoul will
