▲ FOOTBALL match was played at the Happy Valley this afternoon-Hongkong Colts & Queen's College. Tammert turned out= capital selection of Colts, but the combination of the youngsters was excellent, and an hour's brisk play left the Colts victors by one goal-obtained in the Drst five minutes:

Or late there has been much inquietude amoogst the Chinose employed at the Tai- koe Sugar Refinery. Mr H. E. Wodehouse disposed of two cases at the Magistracy this morning. A coolis charged with breaking down a bamboo feace was prosecuted by Mr, H. J. Gedge, and defended by Mr C. D. Wilkinson. After bearing the ovidence, Mr Wodehouse sentenged the accused to sin weeks imprleonment, and bound kim over In a sum of 2100 to be of good behaviour for six months; failing Security further impri- Bourgent. Another man was sharged with intimidation. He endeavoured to prevent a ocolie from going to work in the Refuory on the 28th alt. The charge was proved, und to prison for ons the accused was sent month failing to find surety in a smo of $100 for his good behaviour for four runthe ho also was ordered further imprisonment.

This morning Mr H. E. Wodehouse disposed of an opium oss which is likely to appear again in the forrs of an appeal to the auperior Curt. Some time ago two men were charged with moving opium within the waters of the Colony during prohibited hours. They were onnvicted, the case was ppaated, the learned judges (Sir Felding Clarke sed 31r A. G. Wise) hold that the responsibility for removal lay with the owner of the opium, and the appeal was allowed, the scrued being a boatman and a colle, mere instrumente of the exaor. The owner was next charged at the Magistracy with the removal of the opium, Mr G. C. C. Master, Acting Crown Solicitor, prosecuting, and Mr H. L. Decays defending. The owner ship of the opium was admitted, bat it was denied that the opium was moret during prohibited hours by the owour (the Opium Farmer). Mr Muster mid he was unable te prevs that an order was given for the re- myTel of the epium during the period of prohibitivo, and His Warship Berefore beld that he could not convist.
