AFRICANÁVAME LONDON, Feb. 25, 1894.

A British Naval expedition, two hundred strong, against a sinve-trading chief neur Bathural, met with a severe defest, in which Lieutenante Herrey and Arnold, Sub-Lieutenant Meister, and tea mson were killed. Captain Gamble, Fleet Surgeon White, Lieutenants Boylo and Savill, Midshipman Chambers, Gunner Barridge," and fifty-four men were wounded. The expedition took two villages, but while returning to their basts were attacked on all sites, losing a field piece and six thou- and rounds of ammunition. Afterwards a party from HM.S. Alecto attempted to land at the soaboard town of Glorjor, but

were driven back under a heavy fire.
