The calling steamers during the fortnight have been the Pembrokeshire, Palinurus and Kintuck. There has been more activity in the market this fortnight, the deannd for the lower grades of tas especially haring bees considerable. The esttlements aro reported at 92,000 half chests. There is little to remark about privee, the supply of tex and the unsold stock having been through-` - out sufficient to prevent a ries in the face of an active demand. A VERY BCrious affair, in sodin rempacia a repetition of the stabbing case in which sight sailors belonging to the Gorraan mail steamer Preussen ware implicated last May, -occurred at the Hongkey Wharf last night, says the Shanghai Mercury of the 10th instant, in which, we are sorry to say, some German mail sailors are again the offendors. It appears that four men ougaged in pewards on board the Olden- bar, Captain Gathemann, took ricksha last night in Fronchtown and told the coolies to take them down to the wharf. They arrived at their destination about a quarter past eleven, and thon, according to the coolies, the sailors wanted to go on board their ship without paying their fare. The coolica endeavoured to prevent this, and in the scuffle one of theo was stabbed with a clasp-koife in the back. The unfor- tanate coolie fell to the ground and his companions rau away, while the four sailors went on board thair veul. Two of them came ashore again shortly after and did not Tus 0. S. 5. of the Odenburg was called, and he and B. M. S. Linned has been ordered to Hong the ship's doctor immediately dressed the coolio'a wound, and the police and the kong from Singapore.
other ovulies then went on board the vessal and tried to find the man had used the knife. Bat he had gone ashore, and when Inspector Read wont down Barly this morning and asked to have the crew paraded so that the man could be identified, Captain GathemanO, who had been ashore when the occurrenc took place, very curtly said he would not give up the man without instructions from the Consul and ordered the Police off his ship. The Consul was then commanisated with sad the man who inflicted the wound was subsequently recognised by the coolios. Ho remains under arrest aboard the Clden- burg and will be brought up for examina tion at the Gertaan Consulate to-morrow morning. Although the knife used is a small one, the wound inflicted in vary se- riose, and it is unlikely that the 'ricksha coolie will be able to leave St. Luke's Hospital for several days to come.
Tns police within the next few days will commence a raid upon unlicensed dogs. Up to the present tium over 1,100 iconsas have been taken out.
Txe M. M. 8.■. Melbourne, with the French Mail of 21st July last, will leave Singapore to-day, the 16th inst, ai 4 p., and may be expected here on or about Wednesday, the 23rd inst. This Packat brings replies to letters despatched from Hongkong on Jane 14 last.
Ar the Magistracy this morning Mr H. E. Wodehouse held an inquest upon the body of the man who was burned to death at Aberdean on Sunday night after commit- ting serious assaults with no iron ohopper upon a inkong and a foreman coolis.
