It was with foor and trembling for the morray that our enthusiastic aportamen went to sleep last night, for it seemed hope less to expect that a few hours could bring such a welco.no change in the weather. But the morning saw the leadon sky break, the clouds roll away, sad a genuine Shang- haj spring day riled on the first day of the Races. Rarely within the memory of the oldest inhabitant ban such a rapid and pleasant transformation been ox- perienced, and the course looked bright And smiling when the first maddling bell rang at 11.46 a.m. After the drenching, which to ground had got for the past Wook, it would have been vain ta expect that the Couras could be in any thing like the order one would wish, but it dried wonderfully in a few hours, and the sport commenced auspiciously, though the ponies had all boon only half trained owing to the dreadful wes- ther. There was a very good attendance, the ladies being unusually numerous, and the performances of the ponies were good considering the heaviness of the course, the time, 1m. 36, being particularly good in the Grins Plato. The first half mile of this race was done in 608 But no recorda were mado.

Ton ponies faced the starter, and thei field got away very well together. Filou, & rank outsider, began to draw up from the rear at the Monument and running cluse to tho rails came pluckily to the frout pus the ruca home, winning by about half a length from the favourito, with Orange Peet a good third.--Tune, Ini. 64.

A large field af fteen faced the starter, Royalist being favourite. After the first few strides the favourite took first place and maintained it throughout, coming home an say winner by about six lengths, from Au Revoir, Primrose a good third-Timo, 1m.3648.

MrSassoon's Hohenzollern, 11.4 Mr Dallas 1 Mi Buzey's Home Guard, 11.1 Mr Pond 2 Mr Waveney's Noirmont, 11.4...Mr Road.
Of the eight that started Home Guard was favourite. A good start was made, Taliman, Noirmont and Black Leaf getting away on very even terms together, some distance ahead of the hekl. Approaching the three-quarter milo post Hohenzollern bogan to draw ahead, and at the Monument was well to the front, keeping his lead' against all challengers, and eventually he won easily, a couple of lengths in front of Home Guard, with Noirmont a good third.

A likely looking field of twelve faced the starter, Revoir, being a strong favourite, At the Monomat Primrose rushed out of the cluster of pouies in the rest, and look- ed like winning for a httle while. Bat ou entering the straight for the race here the favourite came to the fren: at a great pace, and Guished a length ahead of Frithrose Discounts good third. Time, 2. 9.
