SEWERAGE WORKS.

In accordance with instructions received is 0.5.0, 1988, the works for the sewerage of the City of Victoria have been em ced and considerable progress has been do with the new system of avers in the High Level District, upwards of 2,700 with the works of training the Fullah in lines yards having been completed, and

the Western District between tho Pokfulam Conduit and the Robinson Ruad. latter at nearly completed; tho enot of these work to date has been $12,640.62.

Distribution Works.-The Distribution Worke consisting of several miles of cust iron pipos laid in various parts of the City have been maintained in se efficient a man- nor as practicable without an undue expen- dilore ou then, the fact being borne in mind that many of those pipes are shortly to be replaced by now ones of large diume ter.

The Dražauge Forks. The drains throughout the City have received on. stant attention, and on the whols they have been maintalved in an ethicient state of repair and as free from deposit as cati be re ne- ably expected, so long as the combined system of sewerage exists, at a $1.251.82.

NEW WORKS. Pokfulam Filter Bersand Server liegervár, --The Pokfulam Filter-Bois nad Service Reservoirs which wore commenced in No rombor, 1889 have now been cruplested.

The filter-beds are Sour in obor having total area of 1,300 square yards, the in vert is constructed on the ridge and furros system, and gauge weila are provided for the purpose of measuring the water passing through the filters.

The filtering matarial consists of $2 inches of coarse broken stone, 9 inches of stons broken to inclt cubes, ineken of coqree sand, und 2 teet of fine sand, the furrows in the invert being filled with very coarse broken atone.

The reservoir, 141 feet in length, 35 fuct in breadth, and 30 feat inches in depth, baving a capacity of 940,000 gallons, is cur structed of concrete faced with stone and covered over with brick arobing carried on masonry piers,

The total cost of this work has boon 830,485.00,
