THE WAR IN SAMOA DETAILS OF THE GERMAN REVERSE. Auckland, January 8th.-The latest news regarding the war in Samoa states that Ger- man sailors have been killed by natives, and that a panic has occurred among the white residents. Advices from Ahin, dated Decero- ber 28th, state that the German consul intended landing men at the Vaelil: planta- tion to protect Germana property, and that Mataafu threw down his arms, guaranteeing that Tamasese would do like wian AL midnight on December 17th 150 sailors were landed down the coast and were fired upon by the natives fed by an American. A heary engagement resulted in 15 sailors baing killed and 39 wounded. The native casual ties were 28 killed and 90 wounded. The German warships Adler and Eber shelled the native villages. The white residents left their homes, going on board the vessels in harbor. A regular panic ensued, the rebels pillaging everywhere.
