DIOCESAN HOME AND ORPHA- NAGE.
The following is the repert for 1387-1 1888-
The Committee of the Diocesin Home and Orphanage subtit thoir Nineteenth Annual Report and Statement of accounts.
Tho tover spoken of in Isat Report as provalent in the Colony unilappily continu- ed through the year now closed and affected both the School and its neighbourhood, but the Carumittee are thankful to say that no death occurred

The faverago attendance for 1887 was 63, an incresad of 11 on the previous year. The number of Bearders and Day-Scholars at prosent
on the roll is 70. The Classifica tion is given below.
In December B. M.'s Inspector of Schools examined 43 children who had made up the Of the 45 at:ondances. 2001 required. (97.83 per cent.) passed. Of 50 papers on subjects (Euclid, Algebra, Physical aphy) 8 failed, 42 passud. The grant this year roanhed 8613.34 (including the Teachers' ahare), which was an increase of nearly 48 per cont. on the Government Grant of last year.
For the fret time one of the toys of the Home entered last year for the Cambridgn Univoraity
Local Examination, but the re- will not be knows in Hongkong for some time yet. For several yours this was Sho Grant-is-aid Schoel that attempt ed the
special subjects of the Governansrit Codo, but the impetus given to education by the introduction of the Cambridge Ex. aminations has causes, addition!
LEZD Schools to presort beys in these subjects.
Through the liberality of the fan. C. P. Chator the Committee have acquired posses- sion of the small gully on the Erst of the Home premises. From want of funds no uso com be made of this ground at present, but it is hoped by a special effort soou to utiliza it in Bone form for the good of the School.
The Committeo agair appeal for funds to enable them to carry on the work of the Homo. The Statement given above shows how well deserving the Institution is of support from an Educational point of view, and the fact that there are now ten Boneders
-scholar and ono Day
who
u fecs, and ton Boarders and thirteen Day scholars who pay reduced foes, shows that it is also doing its most on the side of charity.
