The fifth rifle meeting of this association, which closed yesterday evening, proved to be on the whole a very successful and en- joyable one, although the weather at firat
threatened to interfere with it seriously. Thanks to the heartiness with which the members of committee worked together, ́the arrangements were about na nicar per- fection as could be expected, and the shooting in the various events' of the programme was carried on in the smoo thest and most orderly manner. The Fange superintendants, on whose tine and ́attention large demands were necessarily mado, devoted themselves to their duties in a highly-praiseworthy way, and Mr Shol- tun Houper showed himself an exemplary Secretary.
Tho inducements offered to competitors were certainly strong, and it would have been very regrettable if these had failed to make the meeting popular. The result, howover, was very satisfactory, and the meeting, wo ant glad to say, was a success financially. The ontries for the prize com- petitions, unbered altogether 312, and there were over 300 pool tickets sold. There was a considerable run on the Marria tube, over 700 rounds of ammunition being used.
