We are now indebted to an eye-witness for the following information of that most success- fel undertaking. It is about a month since this fire vessel, under the command of Orp "tain Lobinson, (ono of thio most careful and popular Captains on the coast), was doing good work for the Chins Navigation upa
ny, through the Agency of Messre Boyd &00MS in Co., when an accident occurred which was thought at the time, was the last of the good ship..
The steamship Hagchone was built at Greenock and is 999 tons registor. Sho bid been on the line for the last twelve monthe, when, in misty and rainy weather, and a strong current running out, she was drives to the rocks below Teingeau island, where she stranded No sooner had the news of the disaster roached this. than tho Ageats, Mare Boyd & Co., despatched steam-launches and lightors to salvo hor cargo and tender all necessary assistance, also engaging the British barque Archos! to proceed outside and receive the cargo which was being salved. After the strand- jag, careful examination was made by Mr Ord, master shipwright of the Amoy Dock Company, of the damage sustain- ed, and it was found that it was enn- fired to the engine-room and stake hole. On Thursday, the 24th instant, at about noon, she was docked, where the Amy Dock Company will dept atch repairs as will enable her to proceed to Shanghai, to. bo again overhauled and oficiontly repaired. With the exception of broken rivets and her damaged rudder and propeller, she cocins to have sustained little or no damage. That on the night of the 25th January there was a strong wind blowing, with thok and rainy weather. The Court having regard to the above circumstances finds as follows:---
That the Master, was guilty of an error in approaching a narrow channel Eke the entrance to Amey outer harbour at full speed in such weather, aud censures him accordingly, but seas no reason to deal with his corticate or the of any of the Officers or Eugineoro.
Sebuadly,That the Court is satisfied that everything was done after the strand- ing of the ship for the safety of life and of the ship itself, and that proper discipline was observed on bosed this ship.
