Now that it has been agreed in publis meeting to carry out the scheme for a Park in the Wong-ani-cheong Valley,' as a permanent memorial of the Jubile year of the reign of Her Majesty Queca Victorin, it is perhaps needless to dye cate any alternative proposal. We can dat help suking that the objections to the scheute which has found favour at the meeting last ovening possess much force; but at the same time, it was the scheme which commended itself to the Sir George Bowen resumes the Governor majority of those attending the prefini ship of Hrugkong, nary meeting, as well as to the major portion of those present at the public gathering, and it should, we prosume, be the duty of all parties to unita in making the best of it. There were two serious omissions in the proceedings of fast evening. One was, that the sup- porters of the so-called Park scheme failed to indicate the scope of their pro Jun; and the other was, that those who advocated the establishent if a chati-
table institution of some kind or thier, while referring to bail-a dozen schemes, made no salvotion of n particular insti tution. While, therefore, the advocates of the Park did not entertain very de finite ideas as to what their proposal exactly amounted to, those who favoured the celebration of the Jubilee by estab- ishing some cbaritable institutioui ap- peared to have no definite proposal to The Hongkong Fire Insurance Co., make.
