48 ANOTHER ORDINANCE. The Acting Attorney General moved the second reading of an Ordinance to remove doubts as to the application of Ordinance 2 of 1575. He explained tint ordinance 2 of 1675 was an ordinance for the better pro- tection of women end clûldron. In the prestable or title i was einted that the ordinance was for the backor protection of Chinese woman and children, but in the body of the ordinance the word Chinese was omitted. Be. the Attorney General, had been informed that under this ordin ance persons had been found guilty of brizging into the Colony other women than Chinese. Lately, however, a doubt har arison as to whether under thoup crom-that the report of the Commission who en- stances the ordinance can be made to apply to persons guilty of offences against other women, than Chinese. He was sure, that bis hon. friend opposite (tho Acling Colonial Secretary) would join, with him in saying thas all doubts should be removed, as there la rather an extensive emigration amoos Annamese women and oven Japanese. He therefore begged to more the second reading of this Ordinance, which will ro- move these doubts.
