THE body of the Rev. A. G. Goldemith, or rather, to speak more correctly, a curious. amalgamation of head, body and lega meant to represent the effigy of that Reverend gentlemen was found late last night sus- pended by a cord to the Monument at the entrance to the Race Course. The features of the effigy certainly did not bear a striking likeness to those
the original, but the identification was helped out by two large placards stating that the figure was meant to represent the Reverend Goldsmith. The body, we be liave, was cut down and taken charge of by the Fotice. The parties who perpetrated this silly joke are not known-doubtless they were some over jovial sailors whom Mr Goldsmith has not yet brought over to the principles of the Blue Ribbon Army.

He was prefect of the Pas de Calais and then of Meurthe et Moselle, having as chief of his cabinet M. Francois, now French Resident at Son-tay. M. Bihourd was distinguished in these days for the firmness and kindi. nogy of his administration, An enemy of all noise, he had the rare merit of knowing how to say little
