THE INTERNATIONAL YACHT RACE.
New York, September 14. At last the representative yachts of England and Ame rica, the contre-hound stoop Puritan and the keel-culter Gesesta, hare met and fought one round in the marine battle which is to decide, the future ownership of that pre- cious trophy, the America's Cup. In the race of thirty-eight miles over the inside course of the New York Yacht Club to-day in extromaly light weather, the sentre board defeated the latter 16 minutes and 47 80- conds natual time, or, with the 28 seconds time allowed the cutter by the Puritan, L6. minutes and 19 seconds corrected tína, The course was from an imaginary lino ba tween buoy: 18, off Owl's hond, Staton le- land, and the committes boat, anchored an sighth of a mile to the westward, and around buoys 10 and 16h in the lower bay thence to and around the Sandy Hook light- Ship and return to the finish off busy 15, an eighth of a
mile saath of Fort Wadsworth, The wind at the start was light from south by www.which made a dead hot to the Best mark. From hore to the lightship the wind freshened and pormitted the yachts to start their sheets. At intervals from the outer mark back to buoy 5, off Sandy Hank, the wind was about four pointe. froo. The tacks were made in the horseshoe to weather buoy 10, and from there to the finish the wind was well on the port quarter. An analysis of the race shows that in the wind- ward work to buoy 10 tho Puritton beat the Genesta 3 minutes and 1 second; from thero to the lightship 1 minute and 19 aaconda, dud from the start to the lightship á miu- utes and 20 seconds. From buoy b, off the point of Sandy Hook, to the lightship, about eight, miles, in a fresh brose, with Jee sails to the water; the Puritan only gained 22 seconds on the Cenata, and only 18 ascends on the same distance coming back to buoy 5. In the entire run from the outer mark to the finish tho Puritan bent the Genesta 12 minutes and 25 seconds.
THE RIVAL YACHT),
that the Puritan has fairly ontzailed the Genesta, but I think that when they moct in a good breaza it will be kip and trok.? Mr Borbes, General Paina and Mr Burgess are all satisfied with the result, and aro roady to try it again on Wednesday, when the outside couteo will to sailed, the break- ing of the Genetta's main cap preventing the race to-morrow. Captain Joe Ellsworth said to-night; The Englishman in mighty emooth boat and may win yet. We have eniled our best race in smooth water

From here to the outer mark was the most exciting part of the contest. Travel- ing at a ten-knot rate in the fresh breeze, and heeling until their lee anils were awash, they made a pretty picture. Quite heavy awell came rolling in from the eastward, and soon the crests of the wavea. were covered with white caps, while the immense flotilla of steamers, supplemented every moment by others from the city, chased each other at full spood for the lightship to witness the turn, which was made by the yachts as follows: Puritan,
