With larger powers, the Board could assuredly necomplish much more for the good of the Island; but, with the hearty cusoperation of property-holders, great things may even now be done. In con clu on, it may be observed that the naxiety recently caused, by reports that the drains were being polluted inside the Gaol, was altogether groundless. All refusé that ought not to be sent Bets through the drams is removed under a Carefaily-managed system, and the sani- tary stato of the prison is now about as satisfactory as it can well be made. It will, doubtless, bo one of the chief sims of the Sanitary Board to keep the drains as free of offensive matter as many boj
