THE Reported DESTRUCTION of the FREE ORMETRIX near the Five Storied Pagoda at Canton is contradicted ader High Authority. Soon after the Ro- port reached the Canton High Authorifice, they instructed the Lout Magistrate to make diligent enquiries, into the matter, and then reports Enquiries were made and it was found that there was not the slightest truth in the Report. As a tatter of fact there is No French Cemetery in the neigh- borrhood of the Five Storied Pagoda. There is one, however, situated in the Too Kum Vallay, ontside the North Gate, and this was acaitontally slightly damaged by some grass cutters who were in the habit of frequenting it. Protection has now been extended to the place by the Civil and Military Authorities, who have Repaired the Damage end Restored the Cemetery to its former condition, while the High Autho rition havo caused the Civil and Military Officials to sue Proclamations strictly
