appears also that those who have this matter moro immediately in hand are of opinion, after a caroful survey of the whole position, that the directors were too pre- cipitate in closing their doors. If the pro- jactors of the now-bank are successful in establishing it on solid basis, they will. justify that opinion, but not otherwise. In the meantime all who approve of the movo- mont should give it their active support at once, since it is certain that the mast strenuous efforts will be needed if the now bank is to have a fair chance of establishing itself. We understand that the prospects of the liquidation of the estate are so far pro- mising, but this will not prevent the whole of the £25 from being called up at once.

This, as we have already said, is the latest and most trustworthy Information that has been received by mail up to the present tins regarding the pro- posed new Bank. The article does not atoto that the new Bank will take over the liabilities, but it does go on to say that s Committee representing 8,000 shares has been engaged in formulating a scheme of reconstraction whereby it is hoped the bu- siness of the Bank may bo kept together.' This is a different matter from taking overtho notes and Habilities of the Bank, and there appears actually to have been no substan- tial grands for the statement made in the telegram quoted on this point.

The Times artiola concludes by pointing out the disadvantages of delay in carying

out the new undertaking advice which does not appear to have been as effective 34 The publication of this lane comunecedit should have teor, considering that the at 7.25 p.m. S
