[No. 0477.-APRIL 28, 1884.

On the 21st April, His Excellency Sir Harry Parkes, necompanied by Blosers. Aston and Hillier, left Shanghai in the Albatron for Woosung, where the party went on board the Cleopatra, which sailed at noon for Coren. The Albatross then went up the Yangtaze.

Tuz French are still sending out reinterco- mente te Tonguin. On the 20th April, the transport Nive arrived at Singapore, on voyage to Haiphong, with troops, stores, anns and munitions. Other reinforcements wore to follow on board the Correze and the Oise, and two new gunboaia are slay on their way out.

We have noticed that tho sentences ro cently passed by the present magistrates at the Polico Court, in cases of Jarcany, illa- gally entering houses, pecket picking, &o., have been unusually lenient to the prisoners, and would probably before long produse bad results among the criminal class in the Colony. To-day, however, from our Police roports, we note a considerable charge in this respect, and one which we fully believe to be both requisite and beneficial, though rather startling.

Sous further evidence was taken this afternoon in the inquest which is being hold on the body of the barber who was PASSENGER arriving in Hongkong, or any murdered at British Kowloon on the night other persons who may desire to con. of the 10th instant.
