observations
In
years, where his excellent management of the affairs of the PML5.8. Co. has done much to restore the popularity of au mati- tution to which the
Tokohama owe of port much of its
and which was from prosperity, COMMODORE Cuming paid a visit to Captain various causes not wholly unconnected with von Blanc on board the German corvette the company itself, somewhat
lowered estination when Mr Foster took Stusch this morning, and received the usual salute.
Now with all due respect to Mr Foster's services to the company, the latter part of this clause seems to be scarcely correct, and is certainly calculated to convey a false im- pression to those unacquainted with the facts. Had Me Foster relieved the un- regretted Mr Hart in the Agency here, no one would have objected to the opinion
what Mr expressed, but considering was General Agent of both the O. & O. and the P. M. 8. Companies from April 1875, to October, 1876, when Mr Foster appointed to the latter Agency, the impres aion conveyed is the reverse of the true one. No ono stood higher in Yokohama public opinion than Mr Copter, whether viewed in a business or a a social point of view, and Mr Foster himself would be the test to makno ledga
that neither the presage por the popularity of the Company were in the whit lowered in public animation" under his predecessor's Tplo.
