It is said that the increase of the grant-in-aid for the last year has somewhat dumped the Governor's love for Education in the abstract,not perhaps that he loves Education less, but that he loves a Surplus more. In view of the assump. tion that the chief end of a Colonial Governor is to increase the surplus, His (Rev. Dr Eitel) have been credited with Excellency and the Inspector of Sohools a scheme which will somewhat astonish the supporters of Grant-in-aid Schools, and considerably reduce their grant, if not shut up some of their useful little seminaries.
