Wa regret to hour that telegrame have been received to-day announcing the lows of Messrs Douglas Lapraik's steamer, the Dougie, Capt. 8. Ashton, to the Baltan Straits. All the pardoulart yet to hand are that the catastrophe occurred on Sunday afternoon and that it arose from the vessel striking on an unknown rook. From the derarip- tion of the locality It is inexplicable that it could have arisen from any other caus, H.M.'s Magpie hân, It is true, bona survey- ing there lately, but it was believed that there were several dangerous rooke not fired onthecharts or accurately known. The plase where the vessel is believed to have been lost, is some 40 or 50 miles from Foocher, The Douglas left Hongkong on the 10th Inst., having on board 11 European and 200 Chinese deck passengers."
