The pablication includes papers original and selected upon the Arta and Sciencos, Ethnology, Folklore, Geography, History, Literature, Mythology, Manners and Cas Loms, Natural History, Religion, des., &c., of China, Japan, Mongolia, Tibet, the Eastern Archipelago and the "Far East" generally. A incre detailed list of subjects upon which contributions are especially invited is incorporated with each number. Original contributions in Chinose, Latin, French, German, Spanish, Italian or Por tuguese, are admissible." Endeavours are made tu prosent a resumé in esch number of the contents of the most recent works bearing on Chinese matters. Great attention is also paid to the Review department.
Notes and Replies are classified toge ther as "Notes" (head references being given, when furnished; to previous Not or Queries), as are also those queries which though asking for information, furnish new or unpublished details concerning the mat ier in band. It is desirable to make the Queries proper as brief and as much to the polat as possible.

In the following Statements and Tables the Rates are given in cents, and are, for Letters, per half ounce, for Books and Patteras, per two ounces.

Local Parcel Post.
1. Small Paroels may be sent by Post between any of the Post Offices in China or Japan, as well as to Macao, Pak hoi, Singapore, Panang, and Malacca. They must not exceed the following dimen ions, 2 feet long, 1 foot broad, I foot deep, nor weigh more than 5lbs. The postage will be 20 cents per lb., which will include Registration. The parcels may be wholly closed if they base this special endorse mont, PARCEL, CONTAINING NO LETTER, but any parcel may be opened by direction of the Postmaster General.
2. The following cannot be transmitted! Parcola insufficiently packed or protected, or liable to be crushed (as bandboxes, &c.) Glass, Liquids, Explosive substances, Matches, Indigo, Dyestuffs, Ice, Meat, Fiah, Game, Fruit, Vegetables, or whatever in dangerous to the Mails, or likely to bo- cone offensive or injurious in transit.
