Referring to the reported action of the Saigon authorities, in sending ninais ily10 and others who had been expelled from

that settlement to this Colony, we derstand that the Government here b acted with commendable promptitu From what we know of the French C sular officers, there will be no difficul whatever in getting the grievance ne quately represented, and doubtless fu corrected for the future. The simil.. mode of procedure complained of as emanating from the Straits Settlements would no doubt be changed or amended upon reprosentations made from this alde; and, as we have previously observ ed, there is no apparent reason why the one Government should not assist the other in deporting Chinese who bare duly earned that distinction if it be carefully seen to that the deportees, not break their journey so as m Hongkong their pasture field. As correspondent has suggested, Manila might also be looked to in this connec tion; and the Spanish officials are somewhat particular, themselves as to who they admit into the Philippines, they will not be likely to object to a little similar caro being exercised us to the sort of persons who come from these Islands to Hongkong.
