The gun troos planted by the Ken-cho in the beginning of the summer, on the Nativo Bund, and in Sakaye Machi and Division Street, have thriven wonderfully well. Some of them have grown two or three feet in height, and have put on foliage in proportion. There are some fine speciaens of the eucalyp's in a private garden in Osaka. Though not more than six or seven years old, they are certainly five and twenty or thirty feet high, and bava trunks uins or ten inches in diameter. If our Kobo gums thrive as well as these have done-and there is every prospect of their doing so wa shall soon have some five saplings to show visitors from Australia and elsewhere. The gum has proved itself eminently satisfied with its adopted home, and in view of its great value as a sanitary PIUM ---Now Patna, cash....$60) agent it might be well for the Ken-cho to extend its sphero of usefulness by planting young trace in other parts of Kobe and in Hiogo, wherever practicable.
