Complainant stated that she lived near Canton. She came to Hongkong the first time on the 28th September 1878. Bhe was then a spinster of 19 years of age. A relative of hers brought her to Hongkong, She came to get a husband. She remained few days with a woman named San On the 3rd October, she got married to a man employed at the City Hall. After marriage she remain- ed in the same house until 3rd May 1879. She was not really married. The man had a wife at the time in China. This man's name was Wat Akam. There was no marriage ceremony, Wat Akam only Hved with her and used to come to her house every night. She, some time after wards, removed to a friend's house. She had to leave as her landlord wanted the whole house. She went alone. She wanted to visit a friend. She returned to Canton by the steamer. Up to the time she re turned to Canton, she had not seen de. fendant. She remained at. Canton six or seven days, and afterwards returned to Hoogkong alone. She went to Chan Ayan's house, which was opposite to the house she formerly occupied. She stopped there but one night, and on the following morning removed to a house in Queen's Road Cen tral; remained there till the 23rd day of the ith moon (12th of Jane). Her husband "Bupported her.
