According to the Customs return of Exports and Imports for all the Treaty Forts of Japan, the total value of the Exports during the month of February last was yen 1,877,808 while that of Imports was yen 2,155,287. Thus there was an excess of Imports over Exports for the month, of yen 277,938. The total amount of revenue from the Custom House was yen 152,871.

It is stated that Mr P. Kempermann, the 1st Secretary of the German Legation in Germany at Hongkong, and that he will shartly proceed to his new post. Mr Von Eisendecher, the German Minister, is ox- pected to arrive at Tokio in the beginning of next month. Mr Van Stoutwegen, of the Netherlands Legation at Paris, has been appointed Minister for Holland in Japan.
