DR. J. COLLIS BROWNE'S CHLORODYNE

(Ex Army Med. Staff)-

IS THE ORIGINAL AND ONLY GENUINE.

CAUTION.-Vice-Chancellor Sir W. P. Wood stated that Dr. Collis Browne WAS undoubtedly the Inventor of Chlorodyne, that the story of the Defendant, Freeman, boing the Inventor was deliberately untrue; which he regretted had been sworn to. Eminent Hospital Physicians of London stated that Dr. J. Collis Browne was the discoverer of Chlorodyno; that they pre- saribe it largely, and mean no other than Dr. Browne's-Sea Times, July 12, 1864.

The public, therefore, are cautioned against using any other than

DE. J. Colas BROWNE's CHLORQDYNE.

REMEDIAL USES AND ACTION.

This invaluable remedy produces quiet, refreshing sleep, relieves pain, calme the system, restores the deranged functions, and stimulates healthy action of the score. tions of the body, without creating any of those unpleasant results attending the use of opium Old and young may take it at all hours and times when requisite. Thou- sands of persons testify to its marvellous good effects and wonderful oures, while medical men extol its virtues most exten- sively.

CHLORODYNE is admitted by the profus. slou to be the most wonderful and valuable romed ly ever discovered.

Trübner's Oriental Record contains the fol lowing notice of the China Review:-This Is the title of a publication, the first number of which has lately resoheil us from Hong kong, where It has been not on foot as in some rospects a continuation of Notes and Querisa on China and Japan, the extinction of which useful serial a year or two ago has been much regretted in Europe as well an In China Thepresent publleation, judging by the number now before us, is intended to occupy a position, on regards China and the neighbouring countries, somewhat simliar to that which has been filled in India by the Calcutta Review. The great degree of at tention that has been bestowed of late. years upon the investigation of Chinese literature," antiquities, and social developments, to say nothing of linguistic studies," has led to the accumulation of important stores of laform. ation, rendering some such channel of pub. licity as is now provided extremely desir able; and contributions of much interest may fairly be looked for from the members of the foreign consular services, the Chinese Castoris corps, sud the missionary body, among whom a high degree of Chinese scholarship is now assiduously cultivated, and who are severally represented in the first number of the Review by papers highly

areditable to their respective authors. In

a paper on Dr. Leggo's She King, by the Rev. E. J. Eitel, to which, the place of honour is deservedly given, an excellent éummary is presented of the chronological problems and arguments involved in con- nexion with this important work. Some translations from Chinese novels and plays are marked by both accuracy and freshnews of style; and an account of the career of the Chinese poet-statesman of the eleventh contury, Sn Tung-p'o, by Mr. E. O. Bowra, is not only historically valuable, but is also distinguished by its literary grace. Beside notices of now books relating to China and the East, which will be a useful feature of the Review, it carried out with punctuality and detail, we are glad to notion that "Notes and "Queries" are destined to find a place in its pages also. It is to be hoped that this opening for contributions on Chinese subjects may evoke a similar degree of literary zoal to that which was displayed during the lifetime of its prede cessor in the field, and that the China Review may receive the support necessary to insure its continuange.
