Its communications with Kobat, the base of operations of the contral column, are easy, and the valley itself will form an admirabló Secondary base for the alterior advance on Cabul. Its seizure will undoubtedly be a great blow to the Ameer's prestige. Lord Lytton will probably be satisfied this your, at any rate, with the occupation of the province, and no movement over the Feiwar the Shatar-gurdan will be undertaken by General Robarts's brigade until the spring.

Report does not speak very highly of Shcore Ali's prospects in the Kurram Valley, The Ameer's forces at Ali Kheyl, a fortress between Shatar-gurdan and Feiwar, was stated to be one battery of artillery, one regiment of cavalry, and three regiments of infantry, while the garrison at Kurram fort, which did not apparently wait to be attacked, was placed at thrpe regiments of infantry- with sixteen gone.
