The last thing that Russia can desire is a long and, what she must know would be, most doubtful struggle, while the Czar knows perfectly well that any inter meddling on his part in an Anglo-Afghan struggle would but be the inauguration of a fiercer struggle in Europe, on one side of which would be arrayed England, Turkey and possibly some other nation, and on the other the Muscovite forosa, onos more on the wrong side of the formidable fortifications defending the approaches to the Bosphorus and the Tur- kiah capital
Our assumption that Russia does not contemplate a campaign in Central Asia is borne out by the latest telegrams to hand.
