He saya: "I am inclined to believe that on the whole the import trade of the year has been on a fairly steady basis, and though profits may have been small, on the other hand any large losse have been avoided. The prices at various producing markets are now so low that the probability of loss scenos reduced to a minimum."
The export, trade also appears to have langaished. The export of silk amounted to 17,230 piculs, valued at $9,626,031, as against 18,418 picula, valued at 813,191,710 in 1876. In regard to tes, the export was 1,106,092 piouls, valued at $3,613,188, as against 1,115,994 piculs, valued at $3,473,178 in 1876. Michael Burke, late 2nd mate of The Frederick, was charged on remund with violently assaulting a seaman named Raab, belonging to the same vessel on the high sea. Raab has since died. The evidence hearing on this case is almost identical with what transpired at the Summary Furisdiction Court before Mr Russell, and must be fresh in the minds of our readers.
