HONGKONG ICE COMPANY,

NOTICE.

TE Beg to intimate that, during the W months of July, August and Sep- tember, the Prica of IUE will be 2 Cents par . The smallest quantity sold pounds.

An the demand at present is more than we can meet, and will be heavier during the above months, we have decided upon this advance in price solely with the object of keeping the consumption within the producing power of our present machinery, and so endeavouring to give all consumers * abare. As soon as we feel the demand falling off, the price will be reduced again to the usual 2 Cents per pound.

While thanking the Community for the support they have hitherto accorded us, we trust they will bear with us at this time in our efforts to meet the wants of all, as next year, with the addition of our new Machinery, there will be no lack of sup plies, and consequently no necessity for going beyond the charge of 2 Cents per ib.

A recent application of the oil of Euca lyptus globulus is also by Mr. Rimmel, who has introduced what he has termed an Aromatic Ozonizer, and which he re commends as a pleasant disinfectant. It is in the form of a coarse powder, composed, I am informed, of pine-wood saw-dust, through which is diffused the oil of enoa- yptus, and also the oils of lavender, rose- mary, and thyme. I have tried it for some time in my library and deewhere, and it certainly communicates an agreeable fresh ness and pleasant odour to the air of the roome. It has also been elsewhere stated that an excellent disinfectant may be made by adding from one to four ounces of caİK-

From the quantity of oil contained in the leaves of Eucalyptus globulur, they yild when burned, a very large proportion of gas; and it is stated that one of the towns in the gold regions of Australia was for a long time lighted by gas thus obtained The oil thus derived is said to produes a very brilliant fame; and as much as 10,000 subis feet hars been obtained from a ton of leaves.

But the expense of collecting these leaves in a country where labour is vo its employment, except under altogether costly, appears to have proved a barrier to exceptional virvumstances.
