Ar the Marina Court to-day, Frederick Pat terson, cook, belonging to the British steamer dlearton, was charged with being drunk and assaulting Laurence Biverton, a seaman on board the same vessel. The complain- ant's head was out sa though by a knife, but the cook swore positively that no knife had been used, and none was found in his berth or on his person. The chief officer (Mr J. Millard) said that the complainant's Bead was bleeding freely. The trouble aroso all about a chest of which the defon- dant had the koy. Dr. Ayres certified that the wounds (three in number) wore not dangerous, and the Magistrate fined the de- afendant 30'shillings.

The Chairman then said he thought it! was satisfactory from one point of view that there had been no typhoons here for the last three years, but he thought that Englishmon as a rule always started up on the occasion of a great crisis, and that in the absence of a great catastrophe their efforts flagged.

He said he thought it would be a great pity to lot this Society die out without an effort. They had bean backed up by the Government, who had supplied the appara tus without cost, and he would propose that further efforts be made to obtain more members, and continue the Society,

He proposed, and Mr Emanuel seconded that the report be adopted; which pro- position was carried.

The Chairman then said that the next thing to be done was the election of officers. He hoped that the officers who had spoken of resigning would re-consider their de cision, and he would propose that they be re-elected.
