If Mr Myers is re-instated, Mr Howard will, we imagine, be at once called upon to resign, and so far we have not heard even a rumour of any such step having been taken. It seems however likely that Mr Bailey is not to return to Hong- kong, because the post was only recently offered to Mr Wiley Wells, the late acting Consul General at Shanghai.
Mr Myers traces his history in this statement from the day he landed in China until he left it. One of the firat subjects dealt with is his allegation that Beward was making $400 net profits per annum out of the Consulate buildings. His remarks under this head, and also in regard to most of the important charges he brings against his Minister, are nearly to the same effect as those that appeared in the San Francisco papers and were reproduced in this journal, and need not therefore *The publication of this firus commenced | be repeated.
