There went on board for the same trip about eight or ten cooks with their masters provisions for the day, consisting of beef, fab, bread and so on. As these provisions were deposited indiscriminately among the baskets of manure, I am afraid they were not improved in the passage. It is only fair to add that Buzoo himsell was not on board.

The central position of Singapore brings a constant stream of travellers, and the taak of entertaining a succossion of visitors is quite burdensome enough without having to pay heavily for it. WOMEN WILL BE WOMEN,
In the days of the "P. & O. tuba" it may have been necessary to change the day of the mail's dispatch in the latter half of April ;-though skippers coming up the China sea towards the end of April used report, "had flue weather, sea like a milk pond." But we have now the Khivas and Kashgars, which have made passages from Singapore in siz and a half days, in the teeth of the north-east monsoon. I would therefore think that the change, to which I have re- ferred, may be very safely deferred now- days till the first mail in May.

A rumour, which may or may not be true (saye the Ballarat Courier), was current on Saturday afternoon, and we give it for what it is worth. It is said that there are two Russians renting a shop in Melbourne, who, in a boat belonging to themselves, go out in the buy every morning and take sound. Ings, and generally set in a most mysterious manner. Thefe pretext, it is assorted, is fishing; but they never return with any of the spoils of the deep, and bence it is thought they are sples who are obtaluing information about the bay for the Russians, la the event of an invasion. Report even goes the length of saying that arrangements have been made for laying down a line of torpedoes, and that the Verbers will be blown up whenever war is declared with Bassis.
