Within the last week, two doses involving all the complicated questions of a disputed partnership in Chinese shop came before him, and, as we said at the time, the cases required a vast amount of patience, the pros. and cons, being sworn to by something like a se re of witnesses. The

A man named Wong to commercial men generally and to those" Ashow borrowed money from the plaintiffs, now carrying on the growing trade between U Cheong Yun and Chu Chat Seong, that island and Hongkong - and used a chop of the Mee Cheong Loong shop. The plaintiffs averred that the man Wong Ashow was a partner of the co-defendants, and that the chop in question was binding on all the partners of the shop. The defendants, on the other hand, contended that Wong Show was po partner, and that the chop used on the promissory noter was not the chop of the shop it was one that was used only for the most trivial matters such as on bills accompanying goods sold to customers, there being the word "tan" en it. After a patient hearing, his Lordship gave judg- ment practically for the defendants, as he held that Wong Show was not a partner, but he left the question of the shop's seal untouched. In giving judgment, he remarked on the necessity of the registration of Chincae partnerships, and in this we cordially agree; but we may further suggest that in case of legisla tion being made in this direction, the reals or chops of every Chinese frm should be also registered. At the same time we would suggest that the Colonial authorities obtain a knowledge of the Chiness law on the subject, so that the new legislation may not directly clash with the old system to the detriment of all parties concerned-use. that is to say, between Chinese and Chinese, and Chinese and foreigners both here and on the mainland-and that the position of dormant partners may be placed on a proper

There appears to be only one ide in the twenty-four hours, and this will be a considerable obstacle to trade, as boats cannot possibly get in or out except at high water, especially if they are loaded. The distance from the landing place to the outside of the shallow is about a mile and
